CHRISTIAN ORDER CAMPAIGN
Sir,—"loo Per Cent War Effort" is excited about nothing, because the original founders of Christianity were materially Communists while they varied considerably in spiritual integrity and ability. The Christian Order Movement appears to aim at material inequality and spiritual uniformity. We suffer from ways and means but lack the will.—Yours, etc., H. J. BUTTLE. Darfield, September 14, 1942. Sir,—ln the observance of Christian ethics and behaviour New Zealand stands as high as any country in the world. In choice of ■ Christian beliefs and dogmas it offers unequalled variety. In order to preserve these bless'ings it is, essential to win the war, and in order to confer them upon the rest of the world only the overwhelming defeat of Germany and Japan will suffice. Can the Churches do nothing now? Yes. they can combine to eliminate those fifth columnists who find shelter within their ranks, "conscientious" objectors, and use their whole strength to make them understand where duty lies. Only thus can the Churches give proof of their sincerity and their unity of purpose.—Yours, etc., VIATOR. September 14, 1942. Sir,—The letter of "100 Per Cent. War Effort" on Christian Order betrays a lamentable ignorance of the subject. I shall touch on only one point He accuses the campaign of fostering class distinction But Christianity is the gieatest leveller in the world. It takes no account of rank or wealth. It is free and equal for all alike, the King a.id the beggar, the rich and the poor, the free man and the slave.—Yours, etc., VERITAS. September 15, 1942.
