to £4. A pen of yearling steers in poor condition made £3 16s. The sale on the Whole was slightly better than last week. DAIRY COWS There were 96 head in the dairy section. The quality showed a slight improvement on the penning of last week. There was a slightly better demand on the depressed rates then ruling, but the quotable extent was negligible. One extra good Friesian cow made £l4, good second and third calvers from £9 10s to £l2, average sorts £7 to £8 15s, aged and inferior £3 to £6 10s. Best heifers sold at from £lO to £l3 10s, medium to good £7 10s to £9 15s, small and backward £5 5s to £7 ss. FAT PIGS The porker entry was similar in size to that of a week ago, and the demand was again very keen; values showing little change on the good prices of last week. Choppers were in much smaller 1 numbers, and values were about 10s higher than last week. The bacon yarding was the smallest for the season and competition was exceptionally animated though at times erratic, values showing a further rise of from 3s to 6s a head. Values were:— Light porkers, 59s 6d to £3 9s 6d. Medium porkers, £3 12s 6d to £4 5s 6d. Heavy porkers, £4 7s 6d to £4 17s 6d. Average price per lb, lOd to Hid. Light baconers, £4 14s 6d to £4 19s 6d. Medium baconers, £5 4s 6d to £5 14s 6d. Heavy baconers, £5 15s to £8 ss. Average price per lb, 81d to 9Jd. Choppers, from £3 10s to £6 Bs. STORE PIGS There was a smaller entry than usual in the store pig section, but a very good attendance of buyers. The easing tendency in the prices last week was fully recovered, and all classes were keenly competed for. There were a number of sows forward which made from £6 to £9 ss. Values were:— Small weaners, from 19s to 245. Best weaners, 25s to 30s. Slips, 32s to 355. Small stores, 36s to 395; medium, from 42s to 475; large. 48s to 535. BURNSIDE DUNEDIN,. September 16. (P.A.) Prices were well maintained at. Burnside. The beef sale held the values of last week, while both ewes and wethers showed an improvement of 5s to 7s a head. Baconers and porkers also met with a keen -demand, and were better by 4s to 5s on last week’s rates. The number of fat cattle penned was 325. The sale opened under keen competition at last week's parity, and this was maintained throughout. Quotations;— Extra prime heavy bullocks, to £26 2s 6d; prime heavy-weight, £23 2s 6d to £24 17s 6d; prime £l9 12s 6d to £2l 2s 6d; medium, £l6 12s 6d to £lB 2s 6d; light, £ll 17s 6d to £l3 12s 6d: extra prime heifers, to £lB 17s 6d; prime, £lO 17s 6d to £l2 12s 6d: medium. £9 12s 6d to £lO 12s 6d; light, £8 2s 6d to £9 7s 6d; extra prime cows, to £l4 17s 6d; prime, £9 12s 6d to £ll 7s 6d; medium. £7 12s 6d to £8 7s 6d; light. £5 12s 6d to £8 17s 6d, The fat sheep entry was about 1550. Extra prime heavy wethers brought up to 48s 6d, prime 41s 6d to 435, medium 38s 6d to 40s, light 33s to 365, prime heavy young ewes to 43s 6d, prime 32s 6d to 35s 6d, medium 28s 6d to 325, and light 22s to 24s 6d. In the fat pig section the entry was lighter than that of a week ago, and high prices were again obtained. Best baconers sold at from £5 15s to £6 3s, medium £4 13s to £5 9s, light £4 6s to £4 10s, best porkers £4 2s to £4 12s, medium £3 12s to £3 17s, and light £3 2s to £3 Bs. There was a larger entry of store pigs, and prices generally could be quoted as firm. Best weaners made from 28s 6d to 325, and medium 24s 6d to 26s 6d. There was a small yarding of store cattle, there being only a few pens of steers, while cows were forward in limited numbers. One pen of good colours in forward condition made £l3 7s 6d, while other pens made from £ll to £l2 7s fid.
