RESTRICTIONS ON RACING
AUSTRALIAN ACTION (Rec. 1 a.m.) CANBERRA, Sept. 16. Once every four weeks Saturday horse racing will be prohibited throughout Australia, This decision was made by the Federal Cabinet to* day. The number of events on programmes will be cut, probably to seven, and betting facilities are to be restricted. Dog racing will suffer proportionately. The Government has decided that the racing industry can no longer be permitted to absorb manpower and materials on the present scale. The number of horses in training will be limited, and a formula whereby a horse will retire from racing after a certain age has been fixed. Punters will also be prohibited from betting on events elsewhere than at a course they are attending. Regulations will be gazetted shortly.
