BALKAN UNREST

GROWING ANTI-NAZI ACTIVITY (BOW.) RUGBY, Sept. 14. Anti-Nazi activity in the Balkan countries continues to grow. In Croatia saboteurs have so badly damaged the railways system that a nightly curfew has been imposed. There has also been more sabotage on the railways in Bulgarin. A German troop train was derailed and smashed. Guerrilla patriots continue the battle against the Bulgarian occupation authorities in Jugoslavia. In one town Bulgarian officials were attacked by troops who had the support of aircraft. Since the week-end broadcasts in five languages .from the 8.8.C. to Europe have been urging that harvests be prevented from reaching the enemy. A correspondent on the Italian frontier reports the destruction of the harvest at Trebinje, and he also reports that guerrillas attacked and killed 16 Italians. Eleven Croat terrorists and other partisans derailed a goods train near Sarajevo and killed three Italian soldiers. Guerrillas derailed a troop train near Zilina and killed 28 and injured 36. Six Hungarians were sentenced to death for co-operating with Serbian guerrillas. It is reported from Ankara that the Bulgarian Premier (Dr. Filoff) told a secret session of the Bulgarian Parliament that an attempt had been made on September 8 to assassinate the Minister of the Interior (M. Gabrovsky). Dr. Filoff said: "The Communist movement is the greatest menace to the Bulgarian State. Communist sabotage has spread throughout the country in the last few weeks. Six hundred suspects have been identified as Communists, and some of them will be publicly executed." Three public executions have already been carried out at Gornidzumaya where the bodies were left hanging throughout the day in the market square. The Berlin radio stated that mopping up operations were proceeding in Bosnia. Operations at Brod, in Jugoslavia, ended last week when 800 bandits were shot.
