EROSION AT WAITAKI

REPRESENTATIONS TO MINISTER Foreshore erosion near Waitaki Boys’ High School was the subject of a letter received at yesterday’s meeting of the High Schools’ Board of Governors from the rector, Mr F. Milner. It was decided to make representations to the Hon. A. H. Nordmeyer, as member for Oamaru. The letter stated that in view of the ceaseless and inexorable erosion going on all along the school foreshore, and the annual loss of at least 400 square yards of land, the board should make claims for inclusion of foreshore protection on the Government list of postwar public works. Captain R, H. Hill, of Christchurch, who has been re-elected as parents’ representative on the board, suggested that it might be wise to peg the foreshore, so that the school would have its own records, and a check could be made on the Government estimate of erosion. The chairman 'Major H. S. Orbell) pointed otit that the Railways Department was maintaining the foreshore. Mr H, Grocott: They are only maintaining their own property. After further discussion, it was decided to make the necessary representations to the Hon. A. H. Nordmeyer, and also to ask him to invite the new Minister of Public Works to visit the school and inspect the extent of the erosion.
