VICEREGAL (P.A.) WELLINGTON, Sept. 15. This afternoon the Governor-General (Sir Cyril NewalJ) was present at the annual meeting of the New Zealand Navy League War Council. The Hon. S. G. Holland (Minister in Charge of War Expenditure) returned to Wellington yesterday. Mr William Clayton, of Ahaura, has been appointed a member of the Westland Land Board. Advice has been received in Christchurch that Leading Aircraftsman Alister Boulton, who has been in training in Canada under the Empire Air Training Scheme, has received his wings and a commission. Captain R. H. Hill (Christchurch), who has been re-elected as parents’ representative on the Waitaki High Schools’ Board of Governors, was congratulated on his reappointment at yesterday’s meeting of the board. Captain Hill is at present on military service. Professor F. Sinclaire returned to Christchurch from Auckland yesterday. Mr K. L. Usmar has resigned his position as secretary of the E.P.S. at Auckland to undertake similar work on a national basis. Mr Usmar has also resigned from the position of secretary to the ’ Auckland Provincial Patriotic Council. Satisfaction at the' report that Second-Lieutenant A. I. Cottrell, a former member of the management committee, was no longer on the missing list was expressed by the president (Mr E. V. Phillips) at the meeting of the Canterbury Rugby Union last evening. He said all Rugby enthusiasts would wish Second-Lieuten-ant Cottrell, who was stated to be wounded and missing, a quick recovery from his wound. Gratification at the report that Captain C. H. Upham. V.C.. was alive, though a prisoner of war, was also expressed.
