TURF GOSSIP Satisfactory Solution The committee of the Canterbury Jockey Club has decided to give to patriotic funds the amount of dividends outstanding in respect of the horses affected by the disqualification of Heidelberg in the Spreydon Hurdles at Rlccarton on August 15. Heidelberg won the race from Native Song and Rockery, with Donadea in fourth place, but his rider failed to draw the weight, Native Song was then declared the winner, with Rockery second and Donadea third. Many supporters of Native Song on the win machine and of Donadea on the place machine, destroyed their tickets before being aware of any change in the placlngs. A Generous Club The' members of the Wellington Racing Club, at the annual meeting, voted £7150 to patriotic funds, one-third of that amount each to the After-care Fund. General Purposes Fund, and Sick and Wounded Fund. Increased Stakes An increase of approximately £250 has been made In the prize-money for the South Canterbury Jockey Club’s spring programme. The sum of £1132 is to be distributed as follows (last year’s figures in parenthesis)Otalo Hurdles. £l5O (£140); Spring Stakes, £l3O (£113): Washdyke Trot (3.43), £137 (£130): Tescheirraker Handicap, £4OO (£300); Talko Hack Handicap. £l4O (£120); Flying Handicap, £2OO (£160); Hadlow Trot, (3.34), £175 (£140); Kerrytown Hack Handicap, £l6O (£140). Still Racing H.H. the Aga Khan is racing again on an extensive scale in both England and Ireland. He owns the best three-year-’old filly in Ireland in Majldeh, a chestnut daughter of his former Derby winner Mahmoud, a grey son of Blenheim, who also was a Derby winner for his Highness. Majldeh won the Irish One Thousand Guineas in very easy fashion. Her sire, a grey, is closely related to the young grey stallion in the Waikato, Nizami, whose relatives of note in the Old Country are having a remarkably successful season, Among the two-year-old winners in the Aga Khan's colours in Ireland is another daughter of Mahmoud in the grey filly Sardabec. She is not ranked as the best of her age in that country, however, though this honour is accorded to a member of the aapte sex. This is the chestnut filly. Suntop, by Dastur. Dastur, who is the sire of Chatsworth, had another winner on the same day. Bred by the Aga Khan, Dastur won the Irish Derby and was narrowly beaten for the English Derby and St. Leger. It would appear that the Aga Khan has a very high-class colt racing in England, the bay Nasrullah, by Nearco from Mumtnz Begum, as he won the valuable Coventry Stakes at Newmarket in the style of a stayer. Another win scored by H.H the Aga Khan was with the brilliant three-year-old filly, Mah Iran, by Bahram from Mah 'Mahal, who won the Soham Stakes with five lengths to spare. Both Mumtax Begum and Mah Mahal are daughters of Mumtaz Mahal, the famous flying filly which Is the dam also of Nizami, and the granddam of Mahmoud. Both H.H. the Aga Khan, and his son, Piince Ali Khan, are again breeding extensively in Ireland, where the former recently bought still another stud farm. GERALDINE R.C. TROTTING NOTES on Saturday showed that there is a keen 'interest in trotting in the North Island, and with KAftpr horses engaged on the second day and an addfd attraction in the Wellington Stakes racing of the best class should be seen. The Sir Thomas Wllford Handicap, of £4OO. for 3min 24sec class horses, attracted excellent nominations of horses that did not find a class to them on the opening day. The early favourite for this race is Ronald Logan, a genuine racehorse, whose lapse over two miles at Forbury Pflrk Cflnnot bs tflkcn as his true form. The big Trentham track, however, demands staying power in horses that are to be successful, and up to the present Ronald Logan has not behaved like a real stayer. Pacing Power has done everything asked of him-of late, and there are many prepared to believe that he was unlucky not to win the final event at the recent meeting at Addington. He has developed into a fine stamp cf pacer and he has previously shown a liking for big grass tracks. Shadow Maid seldom runs a bad race, and Gold Bank has shown improved form in his recent racing. The big track will suit him. Yon Yan’s Prospects For his first and second at Trentham on Saturday Glenarrlff was penalised 48 yards for his engagement in the Railway Handicap this week. Yon Yan, who finished third on Saturday disappointed many of his admirers, but he may make amends before returning to South Canterbury, Receiving 24 yards from Silhouette he should now hold the North Island pacer safe. An Improving Trotter Highratehas received penalties for his two good efforts on Saturday, but he is still left with chances in his two engagements. In the Nal Nai Handicap he is nicely placed on 36 yards behind.
