ESSENTIAL WORK TRANSFERS

DECISIONS OF MANPOWER INDUSTRIAL COMMITTEE Fourteen appeals were considered yesterday by the Manpower (Industrial) Committee. Mr K. G. Archer presided, and with him were Messrs P. J. Kelly, the employees' representative, and H. Lee. employers’ representative. The secretary (Mr N. R. Stanton) and the Manpower Officer (Mr M. Ross) were also present The following appeals were . dismissed:—John Neville Westgarth, joiner, against his direction by the Manpower Officer to employment at Plcton; Allen Ivan, Hancock, builder, against direction to employment at Wellington; Alexander Farrar, Ltd. (H. R. Lake), against the direction of Arthur William John Plummer, fitter and turner, to employment with Andersons, Ltd., Christchurch; Norman Caldwell, against the direction of John Henry Price to employment with the Public Works Department, Plcton, as a carpenter; Ivor Shelton Plumrldge, against his direction to employment with Messrs Kempthorne, Prosser, Ltd., Hornby; George E. Crellin, against his direction to employment with Andersons, Ltd., Lyttelton, as a riveter and handyman: Mrs B. ' Agar for Miss R. D. S. Langley, against the Manpower Officer’s decision in refusing Miss Langley permission to terminate her employment with Messrs Bunting and Company, Ltd. An appeal lodged by George Roper Sinclair against his direction to employment with Kempthorne, Prosser, Ltd., Hornby, was dismissed, subject to the transfer not taking effect until September 28. An appeal by Robert Wilson Wylie, Kalapol, against the direction of Naomi Joyce Borland to employment as a hospital aid at the Cashmere Sanatorium, was dismissed, subject to the transfer not taking effect for two months. The following appeals were struck out on the Manpower Officer withdrawing his directions:—Phyllis Barbara Mllllst, against a slon to terminate her vwith Duckworth, Tlfrnlr krid:-’CdmF»hy,'-irtd.: Alice Maude Banks, against her'direction to the Kaiapol Woollen Mills; John William Green, against the direction of Adrian Basher to the Selwyn Sawmills. Ltd,. ; Hororata. Leave was given to James Wilkinson to withdraw an appeal against his having been refused permission to terminate his, employment with the Christchurch Gas Company. Ltd. An appeal by William Edgar Arnold Rowe against his direction from Rolleston as a railway porter, to Ngahere, West Coast, was adjourned sine die.
