ANTI-INFLATION PLANS

LEGISLATION FOR' CONGRESS (Bee. 1.30 a.m.) NEW YORK, Sept. 14. Congressional leaders to-day hammered out details of the anti-inflation legislation which will be presented in both Houses of Congress to-morrow, granting the President broad but not blanket authority to stabilise wages and farm prices. Reporting this, the Washington correspondent of the New York “Herald Tribune” says the plan places a definite but as yet undecided time limit upon the President’s exercise of the powers conferred. Congressional leaders further agreed that additional legislation was necessary to regulate wages and prices after an armistice in order to control post-war economy. Senator Alden Barkley explained that the legislation would set up guideposts for the President to follow. MEN FOR AUSTRALIAN ARMY MINISTER’S WARNING TO EMPLOYERS (Rec. 12.30 a.m.) SYDNEY. Sept. 14. More men are to be called up for the Australian Army. The Minister of the Army (Mr F. M. Forde) to-day warned employers in both primary and secondary industries that serious inconvenience and disorganisation would result from the latest combing out of manpower. It is understood that every service exemption in the age-groups already liable for calling up will be reexamined. QUISLING DECREES CONTROL OF UNIONS LONDON, Sept. 13. A Stockholm message states that Quisling has published a decree giving the State complete control of all professional and trade union organisations and funds in Norway. The organisations are forbidden to dissolve or their leaders to resign. The decree is expected to arouse widespread opposition from Norwegian workers, and the underground press for weeks has been urging resistance against such a move. Subscription to War Loan.—The Australian Mutual Provident Society has decided to subscribe £500,000 a month to Australia’s Austerity war loan.— Canberra, September 14.
