Progress of Hatchery Work. —In his report to the South Canterbury Acclimatisation Society, the ranger (Mr F. W. Pellett) said that rivers and streams -needed rain to freshen things up, but good stocks of trout had been reported. Hatchery work was progressing well, operations being much earlier than last year. A total of 614.000 brown trout fry had been hatched from 669,000 green ova, and 303,000 rainbow trout fry had been hatched from 332,000 ova. A start had been made with the distribution of brown trout fry.
