Private Boxes at Races At the last Grand National Steeplechase meeting, the accommodation was so taxed that many people were unable to secure seating or even standing room on the main stand. At the same time, many of the private boxes, rented at an annual fee by members, were only partly occupied and some were empty. The position -was such that owners were asked over the radio to allow any unoccupied space in their boxes to be filled. At Trentham on Wellington Steeplechase Day the position was similar. The day was wet. and many people had to stand without any shelter, though there were many vacant seats in the members’ railed-off enclosure. 'The ‘ Wellington’ Club has now decided to do away with members’ private boxes, for the duration of the war, owing to the accommodation for the general public having been repeatedly over-taxed.
