THE PATRIOTIC FUND
Sir,— Regarding salaries paid out of patriotic funds, I think our worthy Mayor should be thanked for his honesty. I think the public will be more confident knowing the truth. Being a collector of patriotic funds from the outbreak of this war, I know what people have been saying, especially when we ask for collections. I tell them this money has to be collected; we can’t let our boys down. I have talked a lot of complaints down. I also told. them that these mistakes were made at the start and have been rectified since, as far as possible, especially after the publicity given it through letters in your paper. I think it is too late to alter what was started. After the Mayor’s statement I- would not be surprised to see the money flow in faster to the fund and Canterbury catch up with other centres. At any rate I’m not downhearted; I’ll be on the streets doing what I can.—Yours, etc. J. F. MOIR. September 11, 1942.
