STOCK EXCHANGES CHRISTCHURCH MARKETS QUIET Markets continued quiet on call yesterday. although . .prices generally remained firm round about late rates. Apart from vestibule business the following sales were recorded: — Sales Reported.—loo Snowy River, at 6s 9d: 20 Canterbury Frozen Meat, at £l3; 140 D.I.C. at ISs 6d. There was still an almost total absence of sellers in the Government loan section, while in one or two places buyers increased their bids slightly. In the banking section buyers of Commercial Bank of Australia Increased their bids to 15s, without response. National Insurance were firm on buyers’ offers of 20s 2d, sellers 21s. South British . Insurance had buyers at 635, sellers asking 63s 6d. Goldsbrough. Morts remained firm with buyers at 26s 9d, sellers 27s 3d. United Building Society, cum dividend, had buyers at 21s 9d, sellers 235. Huddart Parker Shipping- had buyers at 43s 3d, ex dividend, without response, while - Union Steam preference were fractionally firmer at 27s 4d. There was a sale of Canterbury Frozen Meat (ordinary) at the improved price of £l3, and more were wanted at £l2. Timaru Woollens were firm on buyers’ offers of 17s 9d. no sellers. Westport Coal had buyers at 255, no sellers. Buyers of Anderson’s first preference increased their bids to 19s, sellers remaining at 21s. British Tobaccos were fractionally firmer with buyers, ex dividend, at 40s, sellers 42s 6d. Broken Hills were slightly easier, buyers 37s 6d, sellers 38s 2d. Dominion Fertilisers had buyers at 19s, sellers at 255. Morts Dock entered the lists witn buyers at 17s 9d, no sellers. All issues of New Zealand Farmers’ Co-op. secured deposit stock were wanted at £92 without result. New Zealand Newspapers remained firm, buyers 33s 9d, sellers 335, while paoer mills were wanted at 33s 3d. Taranaki Oils had buyers at 5s 2d. sellers 6s 3d. Whltcombe and Tombs were firmer with buyers at 795. sellers retreating to 82s 6d, Woolworths ordinary and Woolworths (N.Z.) ordinary remained firm at late rates.
