LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL

MB A. COOK APPOINTED (P.A.) WELLINGTON, Sept, 11, A new appointment and a reappointment to the Legislative Council were announced to-night by the ActingPrime Minister (the Hon. D, G. Sullivan). This makes the strength of the council 37. The reappointment is that of the Hon. W. H. Mclntyre, of Millerton, whose last term expired on the first of this month. The new appointment is that of Mr Arthur Cook, of Wellington, who is a prominent member of the New Zealand Labour movement, and for the last 18 years had occupied the position of general secretary of the New Zealand Workers’ Union. Last month Mr Cook retired from this position because the strain of close work was affecting his eyesight. He is in Australia on a heajthrecruiting trip.
