The Minister of Defence (the Hon. P. Jones) has been invited to attend the conference between the Ashburton County Council, the Minister of National Service (the Hon. W. J. Broadfoot), and the Minister of Transport (the Hon. R. Semple) on training and equipping the Home Guard. The Rev. W, Walker, president of the Methodist Church of New Zealand, arrived from Auckland last evening on his first official visit to Christchurch. Mr J. Acland, M.P., arrived from Wellington yesterday. Mr C. W. Hamann, technical adviser to the National Service Department on E.P.S. matters, will visit Christchurch on September 25 to give an address to wardens and technical personnel. Messrs T. W. West and B. SethSmith were re-elected chairman and deputy-chairman respectively, at the monthly meeting of the Christchurch Technical College Board last evening. All members of the board were reelected at the recent elections. Members of the Cashmere Bowling Club entertained Mr P. H. Harris at a farewell evening. Mr Charles Hunter (president), presenting a bowls bag, spoke ‘of the good work done by Mr Harris as a club member for 18 years. Mr C. J. Morrison handed to Mr Harris six framed certificates showing a complete record of his championship successes.
