Mrs T. L. Fancourt (Naseby street), who has been visiting her mother, Mrs Noel Gibson. Auckland, has returned to Christchurch. Miss Frances Thomas (Riwaka) is the guest of Mrs W. Dunkley, Fendalton. Miss Eileen Rose (Wellington), who is visiting her aunt, Mrs James Hight, Rugby street will leave for the north to-morrow. Miss Audrey Eady (Styx) has returned from Dunedin, where she won the cup at the competitions festival for boys and girls under 16 years. Miss M. Wilkie (Technical College Hostel) returned yesterday from Southland where she was the guest of her sister, Mrs J. Hargest, Raka"hauka. Mrs H. H. Barrs (Darfield), who has been visiting her aunt, Mrs J. Blues, Dunedin, has returned hofne. Mrs A. G. Simmers will soon arrive from Invercargill to live in Christchurch. Miss Aldyth McCrostie has returned to Invercargill after visiting her sister, Mrs W. A. Aitken, in Christchurch. The latest meeting of the gardening circle of the Home Economics Associa-, tion was very well attended. Mrs G. J. Carton, the convener, presiding. Miss M. Harvey gave an interesting talk on "Gardens Abroad,” and showed some pictures of beautiful English gardens. Some of the 'members brought a number of plants and cuttings, which were sold, for the benefit of the funds of the circle. The following recent donations have been received by the treasurer of the Mayoress’s parcels fund:—Shirley Bowling Club £33 10s, Lewisham Private Hospital £5, Maddren and Company £5. Christchurch branch of the Ladies’ Guild of the British Sailors’ Society £lO Mrs Jones (proceeds of concert) £39 Mrs Anderson (proceeds of concerts for New Brighton effort) £42 10s. Women’s Auxiliary of the Returned Services’ Association £5. Edgeware Road Methodist Ladies’ Guild £3 ss. Burwood Women’s Institute £2 Mrs A. I Rattray (Mansfield avenue) has paid a further £5. raised from the sale of heather into the Patriotic Fund. At the last meeting of the Stvx-Hare-wood sub-centre of the Red Cross Society a motion of sympathy with Mrs H. Reynolds in the death of her mother and her brother, a returned soldier, was passed. The Styx-Harewood sub-centre of the Red Cross Society held its meeting in the Highsted Road Hall. 30 members being present Mrs F. McArthur presided. A letter was read from the North Canterbury Hospital Board thanking members for the second spinal chair delivered at the hospital this month. Arrangements were made for the supply of cakes to soldiers in hospitals in October. Harewood members were hostesses.
