ENGAGEMENT
The engagement is announced of Driver lan Alexander, youngest son of Mr and Mrs A. Ferguson, Waipara, to Frances Susanne, second daughter of Mr and Mrs F. Waipara.
WOMEN’S INSTITUTES
Malrehau.—There was an excellent attendance of members and visitors at the birthday party held by the institute recently. Mrs Judd welcomed members and guests. Other institutes represented were Burwood, Sumner, Mount Pleasant, and the Institute Club. Speakers included Mrs Woodford and Mrs Kelly. A letter received recently from Private Popplewell, of the Forestry Unit in Great Britain, expressing appreciation for an institute parcel, was read by the secretary, Mrs Strachan. The birthday cake, made and presented by Mrs Shelley and iced by Mrs Jarman, was cut by the president. The Institute Cup awarded for most points in competitions was won by Mrs McCree. A short programme had been arranged by Mrs McKenzie. Items were given by Mrs McKenzie and Mrs Zimmerman. and a play was presented by Mesdames Webster, McKenzie, Callaway, Burgess, McGill, and Collins, members of die Drama Circle. . .
