ELEVEN SOLDIERS INJURED
TRUCK STRIKES TREE (P.A.) AUCKLAND, September 9. Eleven soldiers were injured, one fairly seriously, when an Army troop truck hit a tree in Franklin road, Ponsonby, late this afternoon. All the occupants were taken to the Auckland Public Hospital, but only live were admitted, the others being discharged after treatment at the casualty ward. The truck was extensively damaged. Those admitted were:—Private M. V, Richardson, who suffered concussion and was in a fairly serious condition; Private T. H. Broome, Internal injuries; Private A. A. Glanville, fractured pelvis; Private A. E. Irving, fractured pelvis; and Lance-Corporal T. Kerr, concussion. The four last-named were not seriously ill. The truck struck the tree head on. and the engine and driving cabin were very extensively damaged. The steering column was badly bent and the steering wheel was broken at the bottom. Some of the woodwork of the frame was also splintered.
