BOOK OF THE DAY
TALKS ON MUSIC Music for Pleasure. By Neville Cardus. Angus and Robertson Ltd. 107 PP. (2/6) Mr Cardus’s talks on music, broadcast in Australia, have delighted many New Zealand listeners. Twenty-two of the 24 chapters in this book turn the spoken into the printed word; and the change does not lessen the charm or the wisdom of these musical persuasions. Such they are—criticism, appreciation, advice, and information, admirably blent. Some are introductions to the hearing of a great work; some are comments following; some take occasions and themes “off the programme.' ’ He is always profitable read; always agreeable.
