PRAMS ON TRAMS

Sir,—Mrs Furey is not the only one who is looking forward to the day when women start as conductresses on the trams. These girls will then see the utter selfishness of women demanding that these huge prams shall be lifted up and pushed into the small space allowed. Mrs Furey and others must know that it is not the actual pram that is objected to, but the size of pram and hood. It is well known in Christchurch that a lot of tramway men are suffering from rupture owing to this heavy lifting, and when the conductresses have to do the same lifting will they end the same way? I advise the Housewives’ Union to concentrate on having prams made to the size they were 14 years ago. when my child was small; then this vexed question would naturally straighten itself out.— Yours, etc., A MOTHER WHO KNOWS.
