KIRWEE Mrs F. Johnson presided at the monthly meeting of the Kirwee sub-cen-tre of the Red Cross Society when it was reported that the sum of £2 had been sent to the Walrarapa Earthquake Relief Fund. It was reported that a recent "bring and buy” had raised the sum of £6 for the Prisoners of War Parcel Fund. Some 30 ditty bags, six facecloths. and a pack of playing cards had been sent to headquarters for military hospitals, said the report. City Abattoir Profits.—The surplus in the revenue account of the Christchurch abattoirs for the year ended March 31 was £B3O 9s sd, which, with the surplus of £238 7s lid carried forward from last year, makes £IO6B 17s : 4d available for appropriation. The i abattoir committee reported to the i City Council last evening that under , the act the council was obliged ■ to refund surpluses to those who had ; paid abattoir fees. Every payer of fees , had to be advised that he was entitled i to a proportion of the profits, provided , he made a claim within a month.
