AT THE RACES
On Saturday, the Canterbury Jockey Club concluded its two-day Grand National meeting at the Riccarton racecourse. Big fields and close finishes kept the crowd keenly interested, and the sunshine and the music of the Now Brighton Municipal Band added to the enjoyment of patrons. The chairman (Mr Arthur Elworthy) was accompanied by his daughters, Mrs H. Sinclair Thomson and Mrs Derrick Gould, the latter joining Mrs George Goulds party. Making her first appearance at the meeting was Mrs Herbert Elworthy, with whom was her niece, Mrs Hamish Wilson; and others from South Canterbury were Mrs Jack Acland (Mount Peel), who accompanied her sister, Mrs T. Maling, Mrs Brian Savil] (Raincliff), and Mrs J. C. Templer and Miss Davis, of Geraldine. Mr Ebenezer Hay was accompanied by his daughters, Miss Jean Hay and Mrs F. R. Davison, and North Island visitors included Mrs Arnott Anderson and Miss Judy Anderson (Wellington), and Mrs G. R. Grace (Hunterville).
