DOUBLE PATRIOTIC FIXTURE HIGH SCHOOL AND COLLEGE GAMES “I am sure we will have much pleasure in granting the use of Rugby Park for this purpose,' 1 said the president (Mr E. V. Phillips), at the meeting of the Canterbury Rugby Union last evening when a letter was received from Mr T. W. C. Tothill, sports master at Christ’s College, suggesting that the inter-secondary schools’ matches between Christ’s College and Nelson College, and Christchurch and Otage Boys’ High Schools be played at Rugby Park on Friday, August 21, as patriotic fixtures. The letter, which made application for the use of the park, pointed out tnat the Christchurch Boys’ High School had already applied for the use of the park on the same day. The schools' representatives had conferred and had decided to suggest that the colleges’ match be •played at 1.30, and the high schools’ match at 3 p.m. The union agreed to the proposal. It was reported that 80 teams had entered for the under-age soven-a-side competition on Saturday. The entries were: Under 18, 20; under 17, 12; under 16, 9: under 15 11; under 7st, 8; under 6st, 14. It was decided that replacements should be allowed only in the first game, that spells be of live minutes with no interval, and that if the scores be level at the conclusion, two further five-minute spells be played until one side score or gain a force-down If the scores still be level, a further spell will be played until one team score, gain a force-down or compel its opponent to kick into touch. TRIBUTE TO ASHBURTON TEAM

"The Ashburton team was very lively, especially in the forwards, and they hustled our half-back and five-eighths thorougnly,” said Mr G. Scrimshaw, manager of the Canterbury team which was beaten by Ashburton on Saturday, when reporting on the match to the Canterbury Rugby Union last evening. Mr Scrimshaw' said the Ashburton team played a fine game and was not recognisable as the same team which lost to Canterbury at Lancaster Park earlier in the season. Canterbury had the better of the second half, but things did not go right in its clforts to fight back.

On Mr Scrimshaw's motion it was decided to write to the Ashburton Union congratulating the team on its win, and expressing appreciation of the hospitality shown to the visiting side.
