SEA-FLOODING AT REDCLIFFS

Sir,—l wish to thank Mr C. G. Burgess for his reply to my letter on the subject of building a substantial breakwater at the entrance to the Estuary as a protection for Redclins and the shores affected by tidal waters. I did'not wish to imply that the whole cost should be borne by Sumner. The matter is sufficiently serious to call for a combined effort by the local bodies concerned. About 25 miles of sea wall have to be maintained'to prevent flooding of a large number of residential properties; and when the mental relief of added security is taken into consideration, the payment of a rate for this purpose would be a really worthwhile insurance.—Yours, etc., E. W. SIMMONS. August 8, 1942. *
