ALLIED FORGE IN TIMOR

RESISTANCE CONTINUES (Received August 9, 11.45 p.m.) (Special Australian Correspondent) (N-Z.P.A.) SYDNEY, August 9. Australian and Dutch troops are still fighting the Japanese’ in Timor, it is revealed from General MacArthnr’s headquarters. The Australians formed part of the garrison which landed on the island last December to forestall any attempt by the Japanese to use the territory as a base. Although strong Japanese forces have seized Koepang and Dilli, the Allied force has continued.to fight. The resistance Is described as organised and not merely guerrilla fighting.
