CATHOLIC SEWING CIRCLE
AFTERNOON SOCIAL Thirty charitable organisations in the city receive parcels of clothing, suitable to their various needs, from the sewing circle of the Catholic Women’s League every year, and representatives of many of these organisations were entertained at an afternoon social and exhibition of work arranged by members of the circle at “Maryknoll.” Cashel street, yesterday afternoon. Mrs F. C. Delany, convener, gave a report on the year’s work. Bishop Brodic, who was introduced by Miss A. Buckley, president of the Catholic Women’s League, congratulated members on their fine work, and expressed gratitude to see so many other social workers present. He said that th? work of these societies was difficult now, but would be harder still after the war, when much reorganisation would be necessary. Mrs A. Sandston, representing the Friends of St. Helens, and Miss E. L M. Cardale, representing the Society for the Protection of Women and Children, also spoke. The exhibition pf clothing made by members was a particularly good one,, considering the shortage and rationing Of materials- spmfe woollen garments had bjeen'made from ne'eefe to finished aftlclg by f country member who spins hpr own wool.
