Official news has been received in Sydney that Bishop Wade, of the North Solomon Islands, with the Rev. Father Hennessy (Boston) and the Rev. Father Conley (Philadelphia) hr*--' been taken to Rabaul as prisoners of war by the Japanese. No information has been received of the other priests working in the mission fields now under Japanese control. Bishop Wade refused to leave when other white residents were evacuated, declaring that he would go down to the beach and ask the Japanese to respect his holy office and allow him to continue his work among the natives.
