GERMAN ATTEMPT TO ENCIRCLE TOBRUK % LONDON, June 18. In Libya the situation has changed rapidly in- the last 24 hours. The enemy, by a rapid encircling movement, has cut certain lines of communication between Tobruk and Egypt. The fortress, however, has. not been completely surrounded, as the coastal road to the east appears to be still open. The 8.8.C. observer in the Middle East (Mr - Richard Dimbleby) says that up to last night the road into Tobruk was not completely cut, but as this road lies under positions bn the escarpment now in. German hands it must be under fire. KHARKOV FRONT LONDON, June 18The Moscow mid-day communique, in addition tp saying that no material changes occurred anywhere oh the front . last night, adds that ttye- Russians repulsed a German atteippt to cross a strategically important river on the Kharkov front and wiped out 1500 Germans.
