WOMEN’S DIVISION OF THE FARMERS’ UNION
■' i * Kaltuwi.—The June meeting of the Kaltuna branch of the Women's Division of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union, held in the Ataahua hall, was presided over by the president, Mrs D. Anderson. Mrs Fraser gave an interesting lecture and demonstration on first aid. Members were informed that the Women's-Division of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union would l give tea at the Welcome Club, Christchurch, on the first Saturday in July, Winners of the competitions were as lot lows:—Saucer of flowers: Mrs C. de Pass and Mrs Carr (equal) 1, Miss Oread and Miss V. Mclntosh (equal) 3. Tomato relish: Mrs Gardiner 1, Mrs K. Parkinson 2. Pin cushion: Mrs Thomas I, Mrs Wheeler 2. Yaldhurst,—Mrs J. Crawford presided at the June meeting of the Yaldhurst branch of the Women’s Division of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union, which was held in the pavilion. Arrangements were made to help with the tea at the Welcome Club this month. Letters were read from Sergeant M. Saunders, R.N.Z.A.F., in Britain, and Able-Seaman G. Jones, who had received parcels from the division. An account, of the meeting of the provincial executive was read. Invitations were received from Harewood, Papanul, and Halswell branches. to their birthday parties, Hostesses for the afternoon were Mrs Johnston end Mrs Macdonald. The home competitions, which were Judged by Mrs Doyle, resulted as follows:—Saucer of flowers: Mrs Basher 1, Mrs Inch 2, Miss Crawford 3. Heaviest potato: Miss Crawford 1, Mrs Guy 2, Miss Peagram 3. Darfleld.—The making of chamois gloves ■was demonstrated by Miss Nerolie Jarman to members of the Darfleld Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union, at their monthly meeting. Mrs M. Houston presided. Members were asked to take old flies to the next meeting. There were good entries in the two competitions—knitting for the Merchant Navy and papier mache bowls for the emergency hospital. Results of competitions were:— Knitted article: Miss N- Brewe X. Mrs A. Bringans 2, Mrs A. Sanson 3. Bowl; Mrs J.„Gunn 1, Mrs L.‘Clinton 2, Miss B. Jenkins 3. Small bloom: Miss B. Jenkins 1, Mrs L. Clinton 2, Miss N. Jenkins 3. Large bloom: Mrs A. Stott 1, Mrs T. Jenkins and Miss I. McLaughlin 2. Mrs R. Duncan 3.
