PRICE FOR 1942 WOOL CLIP

i —♦ — THE 15 PER CENT. INCREASE FARMERS AND MINISTER • CONFER , (P.A.) WELLINGTON. June 11. Problems arising out of the payment of the 15 per cent, increase by the British Government on the 1942 wool clip were discussed this week at a conference among the Minister for Marketing (the Hon. J. G. Barclay), officials of the Marketing'and Agriculture De--1 partments, and representatives of sheepfarmers. The conference was adjourned to allow the farmers’ representatives to Consult their organisations, and it is expected that it will resume later. The Minister stated that, wool being a stabilised commodity within the Dominion, the increased price would not apply to wool required for the local market, as it had been granted on exports only. Mr Barclay suggested that it would be to the advantage of aheepfarmers if a portion of the increased return was withheld from the growers and retained by the Government to safeguard the sheep-farming industry in the event of difficulties from the war. The increase in price was expected to be from £2,250,000 to £2,500,000, and the Minister considered that to release all this at once would be to risk inflation.
