An area of 15 acres at Lower Styx road, Stewart’s Gully, has been granted by the Waimakariri River Trust to the Rehabilitation Commissioner for the growing of osier willows, to be used for basket making by returned soldiers. The trust yesterday agreed that the engineer (Mr H. W. Harris) should assist the Civil Rehabilitation League in the cultivation and planting of the area. “Canterbury leads New Zealand with its school buildings, and the example given by the Education Board is being followed by other boards throughout the Dominion,” said Mr C. S. Thompson, treasurer and a life member of the Canterbury School Committees’ Association at the annual meeting of the association last evening. The modern methods of construction adopted in Canterbury had been approved generally, the first open-air schools in New Zealand being built in this province,” Mr Thompson added. '
