OBITUARY A former member of the Lyttelton Borough Council, Mr George Halliday, died at St. George’s Hospital on Tuesday. Mr Halliday was born at Balclutha, but his family removed to Lyttelton and he attended the Lyttelton Borough School. Joining the service of the Railways Department, he became a guard and was for many years in the North Island. On retiring he returned to Lyttelton to live, and became actively associated with various institutions in the town. Besides being a borough councillor for two terms, he was vice-president of the Lyttelton Sub-Centre of St. John Ambulance Association. He was a vestryman of St. Saviour’s Church, and a member of the Lyttelton Bowling Club. Mr Halliday was a past master of Te Henui Masonic Lodge, New Plymouth, and was for nine years secretary of Kilwinning Masonic Lodge, Lyttelton. He is survived by his wife. .
