PIGEON RACING

POULTRY CLUB’S ANNUAL EVENT

The Christchurch Poultry Club’s annual pigeon race was flown recently from Seddon. One hundred and seventeen birds, entered by 24 owners from the two local flying' Clubs, took part. Only birds wearing 1941 metal rings were eligible. The birds were liberated in fine weather and a northerly wind, which enabled fair times to be recorded. The winner was J. H. Petersen’s bird, number 258. which flew the distance of 149 miles 1584 yards in three hours 46 minutes 26 seconds. The two special prizes presented by the Poultry Clubs were won by J. H. Petersen and G. W. Roberts. F. Carville won the Trevor Cook challenge cup for junior members.
