ACCIDENTS
SEAMAN KILLED FATALITY AT LYTTELTON A fatality occurred on the Lyttelton waterside on Tuesday night, when a ship’s greaser, Frederick Wyeth, aged 42, a married man, whose family lives in England, was run over by a railway engine. Wyeth’s body was found a little before 10' p.m. on the Gladstone pier by a member of a shunting crew. The body was badly mutilated, apparently having been run over by an engine or a fake of trucks. Wyeth was last seen aboard his ship at 5.30 p.m. An inquest was opened yesterday and adjourned sine die, MAN DIES AFTER'CONTACT WITH TENSION WIRE When he came into contact with a high tension wire while working at the Waiau sub-station yesterday, Robert Stanley Brown, a married man, aged 35 years, of Ayers street, Rangiora, suffered burns and was thrown to the ground, being knocked unconscious. He was removed to the Rotherham Hospital, where he died shortly after admission. An inquest was opened before the Coroner at Culverden (Mr W. V. Mockett) last evening. Evidence of identification was taken, and the inquest was adjourned sine die. The victim was employed as an electrical inspector by the North Canterbury Electric-Power Board. BURNT WITH MOLTEN IRON David Stephenson Gumming, aged 55 years, of 13 Hoon Hay road, was admitted to the Christchurch Public Hospital suffering from burns to both feet which he received when molten iron spilled over them at a steel foundry where he was working yesterday. His condition is satisfactory. CYCLIST INJURED Injuries to his face and concussion were suffered by John McLauchlan, aged 68 years, of 10 Clothier street, Linwood, when the front forks of the bicycle he was riding collapsed Ad he was thrown on to the road yesterday. He was admitted to hospital, and his condition is satisfactory. CONCUSSION SUFFERED Concussion was suffered by Alexander George Edward Greig, a surveyor’s assistant, aged 16J years, of 70 Bishop street, St. Albans, who ran into the back of a car while riding a bicycle yesterday. He was admitted to the Christchurch Public Hospital. His condition last night was reported to be satisfactory.
