DECLINE OF FRENCH POPULATION
♦ LONDON, March 14. The rate at which the French popula tion is decreasing was commented upon by Mr B. S. Townroe, speaking at Reading University, on behalf of Lord Derby, to the United Associations of Great Britain and France. He said that during 1940 there were 735.000 civilian deaths. At least 100,000 members of the French forces were killed. The infant mortality rate had increased from 65 per thousand in 1939, to 91 per 1000 in 1940.
