LAWN TENNIS

CANTERBURY ASSOCIATION Results in the Canterbury Lawn Tennis Association's competitions -were given at a meeting of the association’s competitions committee. In the first grade mixed games, seven rounds had been played, Avonside and North Ltnwood leading with seven wins and one loss each. It was decided to declare this competition closed and to play the final between Avonside and North Llnwood on March 21. The second grade mixed competition. In which Shirley Was at present winning with six wins and no losses, would be closed after next Saturday. The third grade competition was already closed, with Barrington as the winners. It Was decided to call for entries for men’s winter competitions and women’s winter competitions, the entries to close on April 7, and the games to begin on April 11. The suggestion for women’s winter competitions came from Mr D. Bannehr, who argued that many women who normally play golf in winter but who would now be unable to obtain petrol, would welcome the opportunity to play tennis instead. V,
