DUTIES OF E.P.S. UNITS

FIRST-LINE PERSONNEL IN RAID

(P.A.) WELLINGTON, March 12. X

The Minister for National Service (the Hon. R. Semple) states that reports in the newspapers indicate that some members of Emergency Precautions Services units may not have a clear understanding of their duties during a raid. Therefore the Minister gives a reminder that the Government’s policy makes it imperative for the personnel of first-line units to go to their posts as soon as possible after the sounding of the alarm. These units are wardens, medical, police, communications, works, transport, and fire. They are necessarily required for active service during a raid and after. Works units include rescue squads concerned with buildings struck by bombs or shells.
