EARLIER CLOSING OF SHOPS
* 1 i ALTERATION LIKELY IN : WELLINGTON r (P.A.) WELLINGTON, March 11. I Consideration is being given to the : alteration of the hour of closing in ; Wellington and its environs on late s nights, as is being done from this week 1 in Auckland. Advice has been received : by the Mayor (Mr T. C. A, Hislop) 1 from the Associate-Minister for National Service (the Hon. D. Wilson) ■ that the Government approves the ’ principle of eliminating late shopping f night, thus reducing the congregation • of people in the city during the even- : ing hours of darkness. ‘ Mr Wilson suggested that the Wel- ; lington City Council, in collaboration ’ with local authorities in the Hutt Val--1 ley and the surrounding districts, and | interests more directly concerned, [ should consider the application of the ' Closing of Shops Late Night Emerg- , ency Regulations, as had been decided 5 upon at Auckland. t
