FIGHTING IN JAVA LONDON, March 9. No official news has yet arrived of the hostilities in Java, but the Japanese-controlled Saigon radio has announced that bitter fighting is still going on in the interior of Java, in which British troops are participating. A later Tokyo radio announcement claimed that the Bandoeng airport was, occupied on Sunday and that penetration of the town started in the evening. The Tokyo radio says that Domei Agency dispatches from Java Report continued Japanese advances on all fronts “with virtually no resistance.” The Tokyo newspaper “Nichi Nichi" claims (hat the Japanese are i closing on Bandoeng from three sides. These reports directly conlliet with Axis broadcasts on Sunday claiming that the Dutch had sued for an armistice. The Berlin radio reports that fighting is proceeding in the suburbs of Bandoeng. JAPANESE CLAIMS LONDON, March 9. Japanese Imperial Headquarters in Tokyo announces the occupation of Rangoon and Pegu by the Japanese forces in Burma.
