CHEVIOT AGRICULTURE CLUB
The first show of work and produce of the Cheviot District High School Agricultural Club was held recently and was an outstanding success. There was a fair attendance. The quality of the flowers and vegetables was of a very high stndard. The judges were Mrs J. T. Read and Mr A. Wilkinson.
Typhus in Europe.-—The typhus epidemic in Europe has spread to the Ruhr, says the “Soviet War News.” Hospitals in Dortmund are crammed with typhus cases.—London, March 8.
Gala Day For Hokitika.—A meeting, sponsored by the Hokitika Licensed Victuallers’ Picnic Committee, decided to hold a gala day on Cass square, Hokitika, on March 28, any profits to be given to patriotic funds. Mr H. Kortegast explained that the committee had in hand the sum of £23 10s from previous picnics held by the com. mittee. The school committee had abandoned their annual picnic, and members of his committee thought that the children should be given a day out. It was suggested that a sports programme should be organised together with side-shows. National Savings at Culverden.—The sum of £lB 5s 6d had been deposited in national savings accounts during the week, reported the postmaster at Culverden. Mr C. E. Rose. With a carryover of £lO 15s from'last week the quota of £29 had been reached,
