As Required, and Warrigal almost in line. Impressive Work Lunaria and Court Dress disputed favouritism in the Terawera High-weight Handicap, and fought out the finish. On Call soon took up the role of pacemaker, and entered the straight well clear of Lunaria, Miss Saonr., Court Dress, Full Pitch, and Blue Abbey.' ' Lunaria overhauled On Call a furlonjt:, from the post. Court Dress then drew sfrom an inside position -to the outside, and after a brief struggle comfortably accounted for Lunaria. On Call hung on for third, clear of Miss Saone, who beat Full -Pitch on the post. Loerian headed the strung-out remainder. Decisive Win Gay Time took the lead early in the Wairewa Trot, and kept it throughout. He was several lengths in front of David Derby entering the straight, with Bonny Axworth and Safety Pin next, and carried on for a decisive win from Bonny Axworth. David Derby weakened nearing the post, and only just held on by a for third money from Dianus, Safely Pin, and Hargood’s Pride were next. Cherokee’s Cup Hearth was a good win favourite, and Wild Fox. Dinah Dhu. and St. Cloud were fairly evenly supported in the Peninsula Cup, but there was a big surprise in store, as Cherokee, the outsider of the eight starters, had an easy vym. Cherokee was the early lender from Hearth, but at the end of two furlongs Cymric was three lengths in front of Cherokee, who was two lengths in front of K L”B’s Toast Hearth, with Dinah Dhu, St. Cloud, Wild Fox and Palfrey following. Cymric weakened rounding the top furn and Hear hj, drawing to the front, was first into the straight from Cymric, Cherokee. King s Toast, and Wild Fox. A furlong from home Hearth looked to be in for a comfortable win but Cherokee came at her with a renewed effort and took the lead 100 yards from the post. Wild Fox then ran into second place, but although making up a good deal of ground, had no chance ot getting up to Cherokee, who had more than a length to spare. Hearth stayed on for third money a length in front of St. Cloud, with Dinah Dhu, Palfrey Cymric, and King s Toast following in that oidtr. Winner Disqualified Phenomenal was the first to show out in the Ahuriri Hack Handicap, and led throughout. He was followed, into the straight by Scottish Dale, Red Ace. Mau- ■ tetania, and Stormy Petrel, and although Scottish Dale kept him up to his w°rk he won well. Nightglass was a close third a length in front of Stormy Petrel, who ah Night by half a head. Phenomenal, who was paying more a ouarter of a century, was disqualified for the race owing to his rider weighing in 21b underweight, and Scottish Dale was awarded first place and Nightglass was placed second and Stormy Petrel third. A charge against Scottish Dale of interference with Game Bird and Mauretania was thrown out by the stewards, it hd*J}g held that any interference was caused by Game Bird coming out on to Scottish | Dal °’ Atreus Returns Rawhamai essayed to win the Kinloch Handicap from end to end, but failed to see the ordeal through. He led into the straight from Atreus, Stabilise, and Eulogist but Atreus tackled him inside the last furlong and after some bumping between the pair, owing to Rawhamai boring out, Atreus drew away for a comfortable win. Eulogist was a good third, a length in front of Stabilise, with Circular Note and Doria next. Favourite Unlucky Integrity, favourite for the Waihora Park Trot, turned sideways when the lanes went up, and lost some ground beI fore moving off. He gradually made up leeway and followed Audition into the straight with Silver Flash, Cinchona, Hamartast and Knapdale Lass all handy. I Integrity «>on went to the front in the run home, and appeared to be in for an 1 easv win but Cinchona w,ore him down in S the last few strides and beat h»nb> a na'TOW margin. Knapdale Lass finu-hed fast into third place, half a length in front of Silver Flash. Consistency Rewarded last Effort and Prince Dolomite were slow away in the Forsyth Hack Handwap. and Erambie was the early leader, but YA/ith a furlong covered, Loid .Lynn naa charge from Flippant, On Call, and Lunlr r om Prince 1- DoSi. 6 'OnCalL® Lunaria. and Erambie. but inside Niehtelass threw' out a determined cnai tenge and. continuing her run won well from'On Call, who outstayed Lord Lynn. I A Riccarton Victory Good Scout’s success at Trentham on Saturday was not unexpected by his connexions, as he had done well since last raced, and had always shaped prominently at Trentham. He is by Man’s Pal from Knocklynn, and was purchased as a yearling by his present owner, Mr E. F. Ward, of Wellington, for 200 guineas. Good Scout has always been trained at Riccarton by F. Christmas. Lord Lynn, who performed creditably at Motukarara after being off the scene since July, 1940, is a half-brother by Lord Warden to Good Scout. Knocklynn is in her twenty-second year and is now the property of Mr H. S. Williams, who has a yearling sister to Good Scout and a filly foal by Battle Song from her.

He is built on liberal lines, and he showed by his finishing run that he has inherited the family stamina. This was his first race, and his next appearance, probably at Easter, will be followed with interest. Prospective Stayer Court Dress, winner of the nignweight event, is a brother to Night Dress, and appears likely to have an even better career than his relative. He has been slow over the early stages of most of his races to date, but on Saturday’s effort there is no douiat about his ability to stay on. Sire’s Successes . Nightglass, who has raced consistently without winning for some time past, was bred at Stonyhurst, her dam Good Sight being a sister to Ball Dress, dam of Court Dress. Nightglass and Court Dress are both by Nigntmarch, who was represented by a third winner, Hinepo, on Saturday. Hinepc has soon made some return for her new woman owner, Miss Dunlop, of Christchurch, who did not have to pay a big figure for her, in cratrast to the prices secured for Hinepo s brothers Haerepo and Omapo. Good as they have been, Hinepo is likely lo develop into the best of the trio. Expensive Failure Hearth again disappointed an army of supporters on Saturday. As in the Dunedin Cup, she looked likely a furlong from home, but her rider had to call on her then, and although she hung on well she did not show any of the brilliance displayed at Trentham in January. Probably the solid programme given her in recent weeks has had some effect on her, but it would not be wise to dismiss her on’this account until she has fulfilled her engagement at Trentham next Saturday. She is due to go north on Wednesday. Good Class All Night made a reappearance m the Ahuriri Hack Handicap at Motukarara on Saturday, after an absence since November, 1940, when he broke down nearing the finish of the Linwood Handicap at Riccarlon when m a winning position. He was then trained by W. McDonald, but when recommissioned was sent to Orari to join Cherokee in L. H. Pratt’s stable. All Night was produced in big condition, and the race would do him a lot of good, and provided he stands up to another preparation, he will soon gel back on the winning list. Trentham Winners Belle Fox, winner of the two-year-old event at Trentham. is by Foxbridge from Belle Star, dam of Majority. In her three starts before Saturday, she had two third placings and a win. Whackie, winner of the first Tinakori Hack Handicap, is a three-year-old gelding by Arausio from Mercian Lass by Mercian King, and Lotto, winner of the second hack sprint, is a four-year-old gelding by Croupier from Constantia, by Lucullus from Elevonia by Elevation. Martens, winner of the highweight event, was bred by Mr J. Porter of Akaroa, and is by Martarma from Waiwene by Diacquenod. TROTTING NOTES Rehandicapped In the Fairlie Handicap at Timaru, Cinchona has been penalised 48 yards, and is now 48 yards behind, and Star Ace has been penalised 48 yards, and is now 96 yards behind. Bold Facer Beginning smartly, Gay Time proved a class above the maiden pacers engaged in the Wairewa Handicap at the Banks Peninsula Racing Club’s meeting on Saturday, and he was never troubled, being well clear over the last mile. A big gelding by Rey de Oro from Shore Leave, Gay Time has started only three times, and he appears capable of winning in useful company. He is an unusually bold pacer. He has plenty of speed, and apparently possesses stamina. Difficult Mark Bomber has raced with little luck in his last few outings, but it should not be long before he returns to the winners' list. At the coming Timaru meeting he is handicapped on 72 yards behind in the Kingsdown Handicap, while he is giving away 24 yards to be on the limit of the Temuka Ham diesp later in the afternoon. If the latter event is made his mission, however, he is sure to be one of the popular selections. Disappointing Audition was expected to play a prominent part in the Waihora Park

Handicap at the Banks Peninsula Racing Club’s meeting on Saturday, but she failed rather badly after making a break in the early stages. Audition’s previous .form had been most encouraging,' and it is probable that she will make early amends for this disappointing display. At a Long Price When Bonny Axworth finished Second in the Wairewa Handicap at Motukarara on Saturday she returned supporters of the Bonny Axworth—Jimmy Drusus bracket a substantial place dividend. This bracket was poorly supported on both machines, particularly straight-out, where Bonny Axworth was returning a dividend in the vicinity of a century and a half. Impressive Although beaten into second place in the Waihora Park Handicap at Motukarara on Saturday, Integrity was responsible for a good effort, and he was again most impressive. He was badly served at the start, losing considerable ground, but he made up ground smartly in the middle stages to be the pacemaker a long way from home. At the distance he appeared likely to finish in front, but he weakened in th final furlong and was narrowly beaten by Cinchona. Integrity is a particularly pleasing type of three-year-old, and he' should be seen to advantage at the coming Timaru meeting, where he claims an engagement in the Fairlie Handicap. Improved Cinchona was having her first outing since joining M. Holmes’s stable when she won the Waihora Park Handicap at Motukarara on Saturday, and she was responsible for an improved display. The pleasing feature of her win was the manner in which she finished on under pressure, and a repetition of this form would find her showing to advantage against stronger company.
