DULL AND SHOWERY DAYS FREQUENT February this year was particularly noteworthy because of the frequency of dull overcast days and showers, says a report on the month's weather issued by the Canterbury Agricultural College. Lincoln. “The damp conditions,” says Ihe report. "have been reflected in the delayed harvesting programme, and at the end of the month there were still many crops of wheat lo be gathered. Barley and pea crops, too, are drying off slowly and are taking a long time to become fit. The combination of broken weather for harvesting and the shortage of labour has been responsible for tho threshing of many unfit crops, and for the presence of many crops still unthreshed after several weeks in stock. "Yields have been good frdm crops in heavy land areas and late sown spring crops have benefited from the frequent showers and promise well. Grain is plump and the proportion of seconds in all crops is low. Cultivation is being continued under good conditions and new pastures have made a vigorous start. Pasture growth has been exceptional and the dairying districts are experiencing one of the best seasons for many years. All classes of stock continue to thrive. Lambs are coming forward steadily, and a high percentage of aged ewes will be classed as £ats -”
