The Minister for National Service (the Hon. R. Semple) yesterday visited Temuka and Ashburton, to discuss emergency precautions. The Minister returned to Christchurch last evening. The Union Steam Ship Company announces that Captain F. J. G. Warren has been appointed wharf superintendent at. Wellington in place of Captain T. H. Bowling, whose appointment 10 the Waterfront Control Commission has been announced. Captain Warren, before his new appointment, was the Union Steam Ship Company's wharf superintendent at Dunedin. —P.A. Sir Joseph Ward, of Christchurch, has been appointed County Scout Commissioner in succession to Commissioner F. Mclvor. who has gone into a military camp.—P.A. Mr R. G. Goldstnnc, formerly of Christchurch, has been promoted to commissioned rank in the South African Air Force. Pilot Officer Goldstone was on the staff of the Charles Haines Advertising Agency while in Christchurch, and he was employed at Wellington by the same firm before be loft for South Africa, where he joined the staff of an advertising agency. He left that position to train for the air force some months ago.
