LEESTON GARDEN COMPETITIONS
ANNUAL AWARDS MADE Gardens entered in the competitions arranged by the Leeston Horticultural Society have been judged by Mr W. J. Humm, of Christchurch, who has made the following awards: —Section 1, not more than quarter-acre, Mrs F. Townshend 1, T. W. Felton 2; section 2, more than quarter-acre, J. A. Scott 1, H. J. Murphy 2. Special prizes were awarded as follows; —Most improved garden since last season’s judging, T. W. Felton; best garden viewed from the street, Mrs F. Townshend 1, Mrs W. L. Donald 2; most points for flowers, the Rev. E. Hanna; single bed of flowers, J. A. Scott; garden entered for first time, D. F. H. White 1, F. N. Gilbert 2; garden never having previously won a prize, W. H. Cartwright, The judge commented upon the marked improvement in the gardens since the previous season.
