AWARDED D.F.C.

SQUADRON LEADER R. J. K. HOGG Squadron Leader R. J. K. Hogg was recently awarded the D.F.C. for his gallant action in a raid over Brest. The British Broadcasting Corporation broadcast said that though his bomber had been hit several times. Squadron Leader Hogg made circuits to draw the fire from a companion in difficulties.

Last October, Squadron Leader Hogg was mentioned in dispatches for his work while stationed in Egypt. He had just finished his when war was declared, and he was first attached to the New Zealand squadron o( Wellington bombers. His first operational raid was over Germany, and he later made flights to Stavanger and the Ruhr Valley. He was in action at the retreat from Dunkirk.

In the eight months he was stationed in Egypt, Squadron Leader Hogg took part in raids over Libva. Greece, and the Rhode Islands. He was educated at Waitaki Roys’ High School, and later attended Canterbury University College. where he took a prominent part in rowing and football.
