STUDENTS ON WAR SERVICE

SPECIAL CONCESSIONS

GRANTED

(P.S.S.) WELLINGTON. January 15. The framing of liberal regulations foi granting concessions to students who leave for war service was referred to by the Chancellor of the University of New Zealand (the Hon. J A. Hanan) in his address to the Senate to-day. “The scheme of the Senate for dealing with mobilised students is comprehensive, and covers all men whether mobilised for overseas service, home defence, or territorial training,” said Mr Hanan. "The record of and confidential reports on each mobilised man are placed before a special committee. At times he is passed on that

basis. In other cases he is required to sit the examination and the marks gained are considered together with the earlier information. “The necessities of military training have required that certain additional centres should be opened, and it has been practicable to establish an examination centre in proximity to every military camp. Where a mobilised student did not feel that he might well let his entry stand and await special consideration, his fee has in every case been refunded on request.”
