AIRCRAFT FAILS TO RETURN

♦ SEARCHES IN NORTH ISLAND DESCRIPTION OF MACHINE (P.A.) WELLINGTON. January 15. Two members of the Royal New Zealand Air Force are reported missing, the aircraft, of which they were the occupants, failing to return from a training flight yesterday afternoon. The aicraft left the aerodrome shortly before 3 p.m. in a northerly direction and nothing has been seen of it since. The occupants were:— Leading Aircraftsman Ronald Alfred Walter Abrahams. Father, Flight Sergeant W. A. Abrahams, R.N.Z.A.F. Leading Aircraftsman James Edgar Norman Corin. Wife, Mrs H. W. Gorin, Auckland. The aircraft is believed to be in the northern Wellington or southern Taranaki districts, but it may possibly have gone in some other direction because of the weather. . Sufficient petrol was earned for about two and a half flying hours so that the aircraft would have come down somewhere between 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. , . Extensive air searches are being carried out and this task may be facilitated if any person in the Wellington, Taranaki, or Hawke’s Bay Provinces or in the northern South Island area who saw or heard an aircraft between the hours of 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. yesterday would advise the nearest police station or Air Headquarters, WellingThe aircraft was an Oxford twinengined low-wing monoplane, painted yellow on the undersides, with camouflage colouring on the upper surfaces of the wings and fuselage.
