SYSTEM OF HOLIDAY PAY
PROTEST BY KAIAPOI FREEZING WORKERS
A meeting of the Kaiapoi 'branch of the Canterbury Freezing Works and Related Trades Union, attended by more than 200 members, passed the following resolution:— That this Kaiapoi branch of the Canterbury Freezing Works and Related Trades Union protest at the action of the Government in so changing the payments for work on statutory holidays that the freezing companies were made a present at the expense of the workers, and that the waterside workers were made a favoured section. If the new' legislation had meant that the money saved w'ent into the Treasury for the war effort, and if it had applied equally to all categories of workers this protest would not have been made.
