RATIONING OF EGGS

♦ 50 PER CENT. CUT REPORTED SUPPLIES TO GROCERS AND RETAILERS (P.A.) AUCKLAND, January 14. A cut of 50 per cent, in grocers’ and other retailers’ supplies of eggs has been ordered by the internal Marketing Division as from to-day. The Price Tribunal has so far refused permission for an increase in prices which at present range ’up to 2s 2d a dozen, and no change is expected until later in the month. The Auckland manager of the Marketing Division, Mr A. H. Honeyfield, said that while supplies were normal the greatly increased demand made rationing necessary. The three factors responsible were: increased public consumption, greater requirements for defence forces, both in New Zealand. and overseas, and larger orders for shipping.
