SENIOR MAGISTRATE OF N.Z. TO CARRY ON LEGAL PRACTICE The senior magistrate of New Zealand. Mr H. A. Young, retired yesterday after 38 years on the Bench. He will carry on the legal practice of R. A. Young (his son) and H. W. Hunter, both of whom are serving with the military forces. . Admitted to the Bar in Westport in 1898-99, Mr Young conducted a practice there until 1902. when he was ap-

pointed public prosecutor in Transvaal. South Africa. He was two years in that position, and five years more as a magistrate: and in 1909 he returned to New Zealand to be appointed to the Bench. Mr Young has been senior magistrate in Christchurch for the last 16 years, and in 1933 he became senior magistrate of New Zealand. Before corning to Christchurch he served m Dunedin, Central Otago, and Hamilton. Mr Young has created something of a record, for since his appointment as magistrate in 1909 he has not had any leave, not even for a day.
